Hi everyone! My name is Derek, and I am new to Bladeforums, and fairly new to Becker knives as well.
I guess my story started when I was 11. My dad was at one of the base stores and he was getting something for my mom for mothers day, at which point he told me to go and spend my allowance on something since all I did was save my money (a habit I wish I had continued). So I went looking for goodies, and after a wrong turn at the Legos ended up looking at the knives. I told him I wanted the Camillus Marine Combat knife, and after a lecture on knife safety, he let me get it. I loved that knife so much, and it was with me pretty much every day after then when I was outside.
Anyways, years go by (as they are known to do) and when it is all said and done, that knife is the only thing I have left from my childhood over 19 years ago. I have toppled many a tree, split many a log, and shaved many an arm hair with it, and it is still a great knife. However, I figured that I better upgrade and get something a little bigger if I was going to be splitting any logs, so I bought myself a Tactool last year. It is definitely an interesting tool, but not quite what I wanted in a knife, so I found myself lusting after the BK2 for the better part of the last year.
A couple weeks ago my beautiful fiancee' tells me she wants the new rock band game with the keyboard. Thinking this was just a moment of us sharing our wants, I told her I wanted the BK2 and left it that. Two days later she comes to me, eyes downcast, and tells me she ordered me the knife I wanted. I told her she could go get her game then, and the next day, I have my new knife in hand.
I felt 11 again, both due to excitement, and the fact that this thing positively dwarfs my hand. This is a knife. And here is a pic of her, my new baby...
The fire kit is still being put together (i.e. parts being ordered since I refuse to cannibalize my survival kit for pieces) and I have more plans for the sheath, but thus far this is it.
I am really looking forward to learning everything I can from everyone here, and have already learned quite a bit.
Cheers,
Derek
P.S. I would post a pic of the blade itself but my phone is being a dbag about sending pics.
