I live in the Tamworth region of NSW Australia, I carve jade as a hobby, recently carved a medieval style dagger, my first dagger jade carving, I hollow ground the edges, new to daggers and knives but not carving, thinking of carving another using a stainless carved blade with a jade handle, hope I posted this in the correct location, a link to show my dagger I entered this in a jade exhibition, have a look at all the other awesome art works also.
Kind regards Michael Burgess

G'day mate.

Had to look on a map to locate Tamworth. Never been there that I know of, but I've been as close as Muswellbrook.

Hope you don't mind if I post one of your pics so the other members don't have to follow links...
This is amazing!

Whats the HRC? How is edge retention?

Just Kidding that is bad ass, good work man.

Hey mate welcome to the forums!!

That's some awesome work you've done. Do you know much about knife making, steels etc?

If you're thinking of making a knife with jade handles (or any other kind of knife) make sure you look in on the Shop Talk sub forum. There are some stickies you should read and a lot of great people with a hell of a lot of knowledge.

Thanks for the welcome, thanks for posting a pic Bob, yes better than links, this was a very enjoyable project carving this blade, I have carved quite a few jade pieces but I think this dagger is easily my favorite, this type of jade is the toughest stone on earth, great to carve such a piece as there is little chance of fracture.

I have never made a steel knife, but I have been working with steel all my life, self employed stainless steel and aluminium fabricator to the medical industry, that shop talk sub forum sounds good Chris, I think I could make a very usable dagger with a jade carved handle and steel blade, I like working in stone and think it would go great together.

g'day mickB!
Wow! a real artisan...
I m tempted to say you have me green with envy.
Keep up the great work.
They look magical.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

That's a beautiful piece of work, thank you for sharing it with us.

Have a look around the sub sections of the forum, as others have mentioned, I think that you're going to find a few areas that you really enjoy visiting and chatting with the others who enjoy making things like you do.
