I know, I know... I'm always pimping some HI product. Whatever blade I used last just happens to be the greatest implement of all time. But this time I'm serious! No, really.... this funny-looking thing is a great tool. So here's a shout out to folks who don't have one yet.... get one! Keep it sharp & it just mows down everything in its path with an easy swing. Developed over hundreds of years by people who didn't have power tools handy... its a great design. I chopped the area in the pic below in just a few minutes this morning. The HI Villager Hasiya has more of a hook at the tip & I can see where that would be useful... think I'll get one of those as well.....

I've got an old rusty Taiwanese sickle that does great vs. grasses but falters against thicker weeds... how does the Hasiya fare against the thicker weeds and sawgrass, etc.?

The Hasiya doesn't have much weight behind it, but I keep it pretty sharp so it speed-whacks through almost any weed. For thick, hard-skinned reeds I use the HI Bamboo Cutter. Its kinda like a machete on steroids....

Thanks, I'll be sure to keep my eyes out for a Hasiya or a bamboo-cutter in the upcoming DOTDs... hopefully I'll have the funds :D

+1 on the Hasiya:D

It's one of my most used and trusted HI blades. As a matter of fact, the zebra grass met its doom (before it resprouts) at the edge of my Hasiya not too long ago. Anything 1" and under is cleanly cleaved:thumbup:

Looks like the 3/17 DOTD Bamboo Cutter is still available.;)
Yea, I noticed, but I can't get myself to spend that kind of money on it while I still have my Survival Golok, they're similar blades, similar size, and pretty much the same role...

1" in DIAMETER? damn son... Gotta get my hands on a Hasiya one of these days... It'll be awesome for landscaping in the summer.. much less attention-grabbing than the pinuti, machete, or golok I normally bring, not that the bolos are bad, they work great, but a Hasiya is probably more OK with the neighborhood... people just don't understand big blades...
