Hi, all.

I'm a new member and this is my first post. First, I gotta say ... it's so nice to have a community where I feel ... "normal". I've been obsessed with blades since childhood - must have been a swordsmith in a previous life. I remember drawing knife designs on my grade school notebooks when other kids were drawing peace signs, rock band logos and other stuff - they all thought I was a psycho destined to hack people to death. Man, I sure wish "Forged in Fire" was around 40 years ago cuz' I would've felt validated and would have had some direction. I once wrote a school essay on knives, including a line that read "More important to me than my American Express card, I Don't Leave Home Without It" ... yeh, I was EDC-ing a knife (or two) before the term EDC existed ... lke most here, I presume!

Anyway, that's not why I'm posting. Here's the real reason: to help (in my small way) support the people of Ukraine by supporting a knife maker there - BPS Knives. I just bought ( 5 ) of their BS1FTS knives to resell at my cost, prepared to lose a bit of $$$ in the shipping cost to ship them to their new owners (whoever they may be, and whenever I get around to listing them). Buying in bulk is not new to me (much to my wife's chagrin and rolling eyes). I play the Native American Flute at local events and starting selling them as a vendor because folks didn't know where to get them or which ones were good (true instruments, not mere "wall hangers") and I wanted everybody to have access to these healing instruments ... plus, I could get discount pricing and help others save money as well for I sell them at cost as a service/hobby not a business for profit. I then started selling affordable Knives (Mora and Terävä Jääkäripuukko) and sometimes flashlights ... but Covid has caused a hiatus in such events and I have boxes of "old new stock" flutes and knives waiting for new homes someday. OK, OK ... I might be a borderline Hoarder (without the filth factor!).

Anyway, I was preparing to place another order with BPS knives (don't tell the Mrs. and God help me if she sees my checkbook) when I saw a note on their website that caught my eye:

* minimum order quantity for bulk purchase of BPS Knives – at least 20 pcs of any model;

* manufacture of knives according to your design – at least 100 pcs

Whoa ... they will make custom designs if ordered in quantity of 100 pcs.??!! That's pretty cool ... if members here were to agree on a design, we could have this company make 100 pcs of the design for us - a different approach to a group-purchase! The "BF2022 Special" ... then, next year, a "BF2023", etc., if things go well. I would be down for five pcs., so I just need 95 more co-conspirators. Whatcha'll think? Has something like this been done before here? BPS offers Asian pricing with European quality ... but, more importantly, we'd be supporting Ukranians during these awful times there.

I realize that this is an unusual introductory post, but so be it. Hmmm ... regarding those boxes I have sowed away, and other knives that I should probably sell, too, I'm going to purchase a Gold Membership right now.

Cheers, all.

Not too rain on your parade but be aware that selling 5 or more of the same item will require you to purchase a Dealer membership before being allowed to continue selling on BF’s.

I like rain, no worries. Thanks for the heads-up, though.
No, I wouldn't be interested in buying them or selling them by myself, but was wondering about the possibility of a sanctioned special group purchase of some sort. Other Forums do such things, organized in all different ways, so I was just throwing it out there to see if its feasible. It would be cool to get a Blade Forum exclusive knife ... one that we all had input on, design-wise. But ... just throwing it out there.

Don't worry, they do that here. I say *they* since I have never bought one. It is usually a slip joint and I'm admittedly not a slip joint user anymore. I *think* they do polls or ask for feedback from members on what they want, just like you said. Put "forum knife" in the search tab, upper right. You will see some pics from past years. I know GEC and Lionsteel have made them in the past.

NOTE: This happens in the Traditional forum. One of the requirements is x number of posts in the forum before you can buy. Some folks, in the past, joined, claimed a knife and never paid. So they added a little protection.

Can someone tell me how to create a post? I have a custom knife I’d like some help with pricing

As much as I like Ukraine fighting a proxy war for us, I like SWMO more. Blocked.

Thanks, man - I appreciate the point in the right direction.

Boy, sorry to see that last's years Forum Knife was a bit ... "awkward", I guess. I don't really understand the process yet, as there are so many threads to read (wish there were a dedicated sub-forum "Forum Knife", with sub-folders for each year), but I'll poke around and learn what I can about it.

I wasn't really considering a fine collectible folder like the beauties I saw for other years' Forum Knives, but more of a utilitarian fixed blade EDC like the ESSE Izula - something with a cost of $40 so as to be affordable. Again, my main intention would be to support the Ukrainian company BPS. A 100pc. order of $40 knives isn't a great deal of support, financially, but it's something, and it might bring some attention to the company for future business by members (?). So, I don't think such a knife would qualify for an official Forum Knife (certainly not in-line with the lineage), but maybe there's another way to work it into the group. I'm not trying to challenge the company by requesting special steels, or radical designs, but rather I'd want them to use some of their existing stock with a design that's within their wheelhouse. They list knives of: 1066 carbon steel, hardened to 57-59 HRC., and 50X14MF (5Cr14MoV) stainless, hardened to 56-58 HRC., so pretty basic, no frills stuff.
