HI initials

I just received my gangaola in the mail today. It's one of those old shop 1s that Uncle had up for grabs last week. Man I love the scabbard on this one. I know it's made for sash carry and all, but it's still beautiful to me. And I can always grab the GS, AK, baby GRS, BAS or some other khukuri if I want to go gallavanting around in the woods. Well this is the third Shop 1 blade that I've seen. I also have six BirGorkha blades. Now I've noticed that there is a difference in the HI initials between the Shop 1 blades and their BirGorkha counterparts. The blades from Shop 1 have initials that are very deep, they almost look like they were stamped. In contrast, the khukuris from BirGorkha have initials that look as if they are engraved. How did Shop 1 initial their khukuris Uncle Bill and how does BirGorkha do it. Personally I like the Shop 1 initials better. Anybody else have Shop 1 blades and if you do, whose initials do you like better, Shop 1's or BirGorkhas?

I think the reason why I like the Shop 1 initials better is because they're cut deeper into the blade. The Kobra that I got recently which was made by Baburam or Sunder had very shallow engraving which looks like it might disappear altogether after a few polishings. So they used a metal stamp at Shop 1 huh? I guess that's why the initials on my BAS, AK, and Gangaola look more uniform than the ones on my other khukuris.

I think BirGorkha blades are also harder which makes it tougher to cut the initials in. And, if you want to see a top notch scabbard take a look at the one that houses the BirGorkha Hanuman blade and tools. Now that's a scabbard!
