If you like to see hot metal moved, check this video out.
This video shows the blade being forged, which was promised, as part of the Bubble Jig giveaway Kevin and I put on last month. Tim our winner from Florida said he wanted a Kakiri.
A local man who has shown a lot of promise in making knives, has been stopping by the shop over the last 12 months or so, looking to pick up some pointers on grinding blades as well as assembly.
Jon is an accomplished forger having spent 19 years as a full time farrier even getting into competition shoeing. At his home forge he burns coke or coal. He's never forged using a press or power hammer. He said shoeing horses is about using a hammer to move the steel. We got him to volunteer his forging skills to produce the winners prize.
We welded two 5 inch rounds of Don Hanson's W2 steel onto 3/8 rebar and with two blades at once, we felt we could keep Jon busy.
I learned a good deal watching him forge; it's rare I get to watch.
Anyway, he was moving my 300 lb Wilson when the hammer came down.
Keep your eyes pealed for Mr. Adelsperger, he will be getting a membership here and seeing the 3 bar, twist and other welding techniques are as solid as I've seen anywhere. He will get some pictures on line to be shared.
His forge is going under the name Windy Ridge Forge.

Let's make Jon welcome here, Fred
