I've had a number of HI khukuris over the past 3 years and with minimal maintenance and hard use find them to be very durable. Interestingly, the ones requiring the most maintenance are the kothimodas or specials with silver in them requiring a fair amount of Brasso polish and elbow grease to keep nice and shiny.
Handle splitting has not been a problem with either wood or horn handles.
I've had the occassional blade chip, but this is remedied fairly easily.
All in all, I'm pleased with HI khukuri durability.
