Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm toying with the idea of replacing my old 3X9 Bushnell scope on my Marlin 336 with a "scout type" scope.

No real reason except the Bushnell has seen better days and I've wanted to try out a scout scope which I've never used.

Like the concept but that seems a bit one star. Isn't he rule glass should cost at least 2X what the firearm does?

Have you had any experience with the Hi Lux? I've also looked at a Leupold 1.5-4 which is a little more expensive but in the same ball park.

Get the Leupold. I know of a few instances where people have had trouble with a Hi-Lux holding zero.
(I work at a gun shop and do some gunsmithing, so I hear about everyone's problems.)

I don't have experience with that brand but I know that price point is something to leave alone unless maybe for a .22 rifle.

No experience with Hi-Lux scopes; however, I would recommend trying a scout scope set-up, if you can, before buying. It is a completely different shooting experience, and some shooters find it difficult to adjust from traditional scope set-ups. Just my .02$.

I don't know anyone with a scout scope (which maybe should tell me something) so I was hoping to try it out without too huge of an investment. If I put like an XS rail on the Marlin I can still use that same set up for any optics or even a red dot or something so I'd really not be out too much.

If I did get a scout type scope and didn't like it can you move them back to traditional set up or is there something about the eye relief specific to a scout scope that would not allow me to reuse it for normal mount?

Any of the long eye relief optics I have tried all get funky if you get too close to the lens.

A long eye relief scope might be adaptable to a handgun, but will not work as a traditional mounted scope. If you already have a traditional scope mounted to the rifle..., maybe just upgrade to a little better scope. Vortex and Hawke both make some nice, inexpensive scopes.

I've used the Leupold scout scope and the Burris, both worked very well on a marlin and made for a quick pig gun. The Xs mount is solid as a rock too.
