I am a newbie too. I started with a Kershaw Cryo, CRKT Moxie and a Syperco Tenacious.
I plan spend much more as I am as obsessed as anyone here. I am a chef. I have plenty of quality blades for work, but I have loved knives as a kid. (Parents made me throw them all out)
Now that I am back, in my 40s, I am back with a vengeance.
I have in my recent order list:
Benchmade, Griptillian

Syperco, Native 2 and Manix

ZT 0550 and ZT 0566

I will be getting a Edge Pro Apex to increase my side knife sharpening business, to help pay for all these knives.
I am really psyched to be on this forum.
Thank you everyone.
p.s. I will be buying a subscription soon to help support BF!

Does anyone have any advice for a newbie knive nut?

My advice would be to do a lot of research before you buy. Not only does it inform you of what you purchase so you make a good decision, but it will help slow down the expenditure. Between reviews sites, forums and youtube, you can draw a pretty good conclusion on which knives you like and want to buy. After you buy one, take some time to carry it, use it, sharpen it and understand what it is that you like about it. That understanding will inform you on your next purchase and help guide you down a path. You may find that you love a certain type of lock or deployment method. You may find that you prefer to experiment with supersteels or maybe you prefer to find the coolest and newest handle materials. Have fun!

My real advice is to sit down one day with the knives you have and decide what you like about each, make a list of the features you like best and search for knives that combine the most spec's off your list as possible.

Its fun to buy and try out new knives that are different from what you have, the faster you learn your style and what you like the faster you can stop waisting money on knives your rarely going to carry and concentrate on getting the stuff you'll really like. I have tons of knives I bought to play with and that I like but I really don't carry cause overall they're not my style, if I would of never bought them that would be a lot of money I could have put towards a few knives that I like everything about and are now at the top of my list but just out of reach.

The bad thing about knives is that you can get good stuff for less than $100, which can keep a steady stream of little boxes arriving in the mail. The key is to figure out what you really like, is it the arrival of the boxes, or what's inside. Try to make good decisions on quality stuff, even if it costs a bit more and is most useful in your daily life. A big toolbox full of knives is cool, but when you notice they are starting to collect dust, it's time to move them on (outside of collector items). At least for me.
Pretty soon $100 knives will look like bargains.
Welcome and best of luck with your new addiction.

Thanks everyone for your advice and the warm welcome.
I am excited to read more and play more.
I am currently studying steels. I have charts and graphs.
And I will say I can't stop watching knife reviews on YouTube. It is one of my primary entertainments. Thanks again people.

Welcome to Bladeforums and enjoy. Glad you admitted your an addict, welcome to the club. Order one knife at a time and enjoy it in a honeymoon phase before you order another, this will help you not spend too much too quickly, as your knife interests grow you will spend more and more on each knife depending on if customs interest you. Once you go to a certain level it is hard for many to go back to a certain point. I still enjoy my Kershaw Chill very much but it does not compare to my ZT 0560 which does not compare to my customs coming or being built.

This is awesome advice! Thanks. I was about to and still might buy four knives above $100.
