Hows it going I'm Steve. I used to do some stock removal back when I was little. Around 19 or so. Was sitting around one evening and decided, I'd like to make knives. But wanted to learn to forge them. So I've been studying, build a brake drum forge, bought a little crappy anvil shaped thingy that has some nice features but doesn't work for crap. And started beating down a rail road spike. I know they are crappy metal but its what I had and since I haven't a clue what I'm doing and can't find anyone in the next 2 hours drive my house that does, I figured it was the cheapest route to learn. So this is my first try, obviously not finished yet. :)

still need to draw down the edge of the blade a bit. and work out the tang a bit before its ready for a grip. But its somewhat close to where I want it, I think :)

Welcome Steve! I think there are many knifemakers in TX. Get yourself a recent copy of Blade's Knife annual(BLADE 2015, BLADE 2016). In the back there are listings of all the makers and their contact information. There are many very good knifemaking videos on You Tube. Look for names like Nick Wheeler, Aaron Gough, Walter Sorrells, Tai Goo, Stuart Smith, Kyle Royer, FredeenBlades, Green Beetle, Caleb White. For general forging techniques check out Brian Brazeal. Also take some time to go through and read as much of the information in the stickies at the top of this subforum.

Welcome Here! You actually made a good try. Hope you can make much better knives than this one. So Good luck for Future
