Guys I have never seen this wood before. Should I leave it be or finish it with some tru-oil?

Thanks,

Billy

You might consider Watcos Danish finishing oil. You have a choice of a nice satin finish if you do. True oil is bright.

For just a second, I thought the thread said, "HI Peckerwood"

LOL. There have been lots of suggestive, or close to suggestive thread names lately. :foot:

Yes...that would describe more than a few of us here on the forum....:foot: :p

If it was me, and that was my khukuri...I would lightly sand it with some 220-600 grit paper and then apply either Tung Oil or satin polyurethane.

These finishes are best for "user khuks".

If you want a glossy finish, then go for Tru Oil or a glossy polyurethane.

Thanks guys, just wondering if there is some grain underneath. Haven't seen many others with this type of wood on them. I think I'll go with the satin finish. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks also for making me check my spelling! I was horrified for a minute. lol

I'm glad Dan brought up poly U. I've used it to good effect on walking sticks and plan on treating some khuk handles with it.

The HI pepperwood handles are amazing.

Check out this 18" AK in pepperwood. All I treated it with was Ballistol, which is basically mineral oil.

Below it is a 18"/18 oz. Sher Attitude Special in neem.

Working on uploading new shots for a neem thread...

WOW nice pics Ad Astra!!! I need to take some Neem pics as well. Maybe later. Thanks, I love ballistol.

I have sealed wood with natural Watco Danish oil and then followed up with a single coat of Watco polyurethane wiping varnish. It looks good and should provide better protection than Watco Danish oil alone.
