anyone have any thoughts on Hi-point firearms. I read they are heavy but come with a lifetime warrenty.

CONS:
They are clunky, heavy, cheap and have a rough finish.
Accuracy is substandard.
Trigger pull is heavy.
I don't know of anyone in any sort of law enforcement capacity that carry them.....or would consider carrying one.
I could go on and on.....

PROS:

.....................

I would never buy or carry one period!
I have often wondered why they are still produced.
Hope I didn't offend anyone!

Their pistols are heavy and big and ugly and made of "sub-standard" materials. I've never shot one but i've handeled one that belonged to a buddy.

I've heard that their carbine is great tho.

An acquaintance of mine was at a shooting range, firing a "substandard" weapon like a Hi-Point, his was one of a more trusted name I might add, and it had a catastrophic failure that almost cost him his life. The weapon literally blew up in his hands. That reinforced in me a desire to never purchase any weapon with a reputation like that. A friend of mine in Memphis swares by them. He will admit that the gun sucks for all reasons named here already, but he said it goes bang every time.

They're all hideous. The pistols are as uncomfortable and 'cheap feeling' as they are ugly.

But that little 9mm carbine is a winner. Ugly as sin like the pistols, but fun to shoot, reliable, and accurate. Really a lot of fun and worth the relatively little money.

The Carbine is cool especially the 9mm ,the pistols are disposable ghetto blasters.

They make a nice aftermarket stock for the carbine that cleans the lines up... I have heard good things about the carbine, but have never been able to bring myself to buy one..

Got a $5 head? Protect it with a $5 helmet.
Got a $99 life? Defend it with a $99 firearm.

I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just saying that you can do better and you probably deserve better than a Hi-Point. If its for self defense, spend more that $100. Firearms don't depreciate in value that much and you can usually get your money back if you ever need to sell it.

If you're looking for something to target shoot or just go plinking with, look at a Ruger, browning or Beretta .22. They can still be found for $200.

If you need a defence handgun, take a look at some used revolvers in .357. You can find dependable .357 Magnums for $250(ish) and many of them will last a lifetime.

I have had 2 of these "PaperWeight" , I got them thru a trade with a friend & after a day of shooting I sold them as fast as I could ! J U N K ! The 45 wold feed jam at least twice a mag, the 9mm did good but the accuracy on these 2 were horrible :thumbdn: & to break these guns down for cleaning & clearing jams you will need a hammer & small punch because they use rollpins to hold it togather:thumbdn: If I can't break it down in the field then it's USELESS !
I WOULD NOT PURCHASE A HI-POINT HANDGUN FOR MY PERSONAL DEFENSE ;) Now as for the 9mm carbine, my buddy has one & for $100 nib it was worth every penny, It shoots fairley accurate & no feed jams !

I reviewed the 995 carbine here.

The carbines are good, although I have heard of some type of slam firing(don't know if you guys know more).
The pistols are the poster child ghetto gun.

I like the feel of the 995 carbine. It comes up naturally and feels comfortable. It's also amazingly accurate. Unfortunately, mine is not reliable (most of them run like clocks, but some hiccup alot). The bolt handle needs to be screwed down periodically. Some of the other screws that hold the thing together need to be regularly tightened down too. But, if you get a good one, they are a good bargain; and Hi-Point has a good rep for warranty repair.

The controls aren't ergonomic, though; that would be my biggest complaint. The safety switch will tear up your fingers and loading the magazines is painful because they're kind of sharp.

The 45 wold feed jam at least twice a mag,
They would have fixed it,no questions ask.
I see and shoot a lot of hi-points
Since I live where shooting cans in the back of the barn is still considered good fun by most . And yougin' still get guns as gifts (18 year olds) a lot of them get bought for young people to plink with. And I am the local "old"gun nut that helps them with gun stuff. Folks buy them a hi point. They come show me their new pistol:D. Just like their first car, it is theirs, and it is a car.
I have easily handled 40 or so handgun and a dozen carbines 2 or 3 have had problems. factory was called. no problem they fixed. always got a couple extra mags. for the problem I have never had a problem hitting anything with them
I had for years a carbine and a compact nine I have outshot many 9mm's that cost 5 times what a hi point compact 9 cost.the carbine is first just plain fun to shoot:D plus it shoots minute of groundhog out to 100 yards. Mine has close to 100 groundhog kills.I use it where the 22-250 is to much, but I don't want it getting back to the hole (115 silvertip reloads) .
So in conclusion Yes they are ugly heavy clunky and have a funky trigger . but the go bang and reload every time If they don't send it back and they will make so it does.It doesn't matter if you are the original owner or 12th owner. I threw my carbine in the truck once, because I blew an easy shot it hit the gear shift and broke the front sight. I called them told them I broke it . their. reply was it doesn't matter we will fix it, or send me the part if I felt I could fix it . I had the part the next day.
I would sure trust my life to a hi point before I would trust it to a taurus auto, mine went back to the factory 3 times I have 3 other friends that have had to send them back. My taurus model 94 .22 has been great though

Why is this even a debate? Go fondle one, see it's hideous junk, gather up self respect, buy a quality firearm.

Well if you're a gangbanger and need a cheap throw away piece thats your ticket. If you like your pistols and your pots to have something in common then its a good pick there too. If the cheapest piece of unreliable crap is what you're looking for then hipoint is your pistol.

I just dont see the pistols as that great of a deal. In my area, you can get a Bersa Thunder in .380 for not much more. Is that the most ergonomic handgun around? Nope. But, it's a hell of a lot better than a Hi-Point. :p

Was that with factory ammo or reloads? I always wonder when I hear about a pistol exploding, ya never really get all the details, age of gun, type of ammo etc.
I would still buy that gun over a Hi Point anyday! :D

Good trigger finger in the Register Postion there Phil! The Hi-Points are unacceptable as a serious self defense tool. If you want a cheap plinker fine...but there are too many other choices that are affordable. But what the heck do I know?

If you are looking for a cheap, well built, dead reliable handgun, gather up $200 and go buy a Makarov..
