Anybody want to do a pumpkin carving contest just for fun? Limited to HI steel only.
I was originally going to just chop a few pumpkins with my M43 and AK and post the pics:D but I figured I could probably do a halfway decent job with a karda too.

I like the first one. HI pumpkin killing contest! :) Must have video!

I want to use my Giant Seax... how about it?

if so, then I'll go get a punkin and cut the beast up. :D

I was actually at a pumpkin patch with my son walking through a Maize Maze thinking a 25" or 30" Korba would be perfect for this(the Corn Maze). Then I though you know I can probably top a pumpkin the same way I do 2 liter pop bottles...then to finish it with the tip of the Khukuri or use the karda? A YCS with a tool kit would probably have an unfair advantage. Any way I'm going to try and whack at least 1 this week and post the results I'll use the M43 then might use the Bilton on a smaller one.

Giant seax won't be maneuverable enough. I think you should wait for a more nimble blade -- like your Giant Chit Bowie to do the fine work. :p

That's a great idea:)

I was planning on using my HSK for the rough work anyway:p

Here is the opening shot. Done with my recently re-handled M43

Hmm..."Pumpkin Carver" I can see a specialized HI model looming. The Kamis are really gonna be scratching their heads over this one. They probably already think we're kinda nuts.:D

PS. Oldschool nice job w/ the jack-o-lantern. I'm out 'cause I can't top that w/ a kuk. Ya got mad blade skillz!

monkeybutt, thanks. What is really impressive is that I donated 2units of blood today but none by way of the M43 or that pumpkin. A Karda would make short work of a Jack-o-lantern.
If I can get somebody to upload the video I think I can talk my wife into taking a slasher video using the M43 and 2 smaller pumpkins using her Iphone.

2 units? that is impressive. Especially if ya carved after the donation.

And thumbsup for a pumpkin slasher vid for the Halloween spirit. For lack of legally killed zombies, jack-o-lanterns are the next best thing...plus they always have that freakin' smirk...Grrr.

Good stuff Ray. I'd try this out, but being in Australia, the skin of the pumpkins we get are slightly different, not that deep orange for jack-o-lanterns, but a pale green. They're overall smaller and flatter too.

:grumpy: No Giant Seax! No Punkin! :thumbdn:

:D LOL :D

Maybe the Tarwar will work for the big stuff then, when the GCB arrives I can do the face.

Good Job Old School! IT's amazing how nimble an M-43 can be isn't it?

Was eyeing the pumpkins at the store today. 13cents a pound. Hoping they get a little lower closer to halloween. Thinking my Durba Dagger and 20" Sirupati Lisa would do a nice job. Last year a friend and I cut up pumpkins with Swords, machetes and khukris. It was a lot of fun.

Leo they had some other gords I guess you would call them at the pumpkin patch probably close to what you get in Australia.
That monster of a pumpkin was 90% hollow that small little bowl is all of the "guts" that I got from it and barely yielded a cookie sheet pan of seeds when I went to roast them. That was a tough carve with the skin averaging over an inch thick. It's not something I'd do again for fun. Slashing 2 or more pumpkins in half with one stroke is definitely on the to do list:D
Has anybody ever cut unopened cans of soda pop? I've done empties filled with water and I can occasionally get a 6 pack of store brand around here for $1.
Monkeybutt I donate a "double red" every 4 months (machine takes and keeps the solids 2 units and gives me back the liquids) and been doing it for a few years. I eat like a fiend for a few days afterwards but thats all. I'm well into my 3rd gallon donated.

That's because they are growing upside down.:D
