Here is a little video clip I did this summer during a backpacking trip looking for 5 lined skinks. Sorry seen one but no pics. :( The quality isn't all that great but for those into herping a little rattlesnake humor from last season might make these short days a little longer. This is from my photobucket account so just right click on the photo and open link in a new window or tab.

Best of luck herping next year. :)

Neat video. It look like you were standing pretty close with your camera though. You might have had zoom on though lol.

That snake was moody for sure. No way I was going to get any closer but it never struck or acted nasty. It just wanted me someplace else.

Cool! Maybe it was just reacting to the high price of starbucks :D

Wow, cool. I just joined this forum and I didn't think there'd be any other herpers on here. I live in southern california and I'm pretty fortunate because rattlesnakes are my favorite snakes and we have many different kinds here. I actually breed albino C. atrox and I'm going to get into breeding C. scutulatus as well, along with the other types that I have. Cool video.

If you had taken it to Starbucks, I bet they would have given you a discount...heck, they might have simply thrown the drink at you and ran;)

I love snakes and always went looking for them, picked them up, and handled them as a youth...I am learning to enjoy nature from a distance as an adult (I would not appreciate nature coming into my bedding area and taking pictures or handling me:D

Thanks for the link/video. good stuff

Kdg.

Once I mentioned a specialty drink… a white chocolate mocha cappuccino the snake became irate. I should have told it the trip was on my dime.

I like all things Crotalus as well but have two left feet and a hand full of thumbs so can’t be trusted with a hot snake, not even Copperhead. In case my condition is contagious take care and don’t get hit. I have only timbers in my neck of the woods but they’re doing much better than people know. The snakes can have such a difference in coloration between individuals even in the same area. Here are two individuals found a year and two miles apart in the same defensive pose.

This one has a nearly yellow upper body.

This one very dark.

Maybe the darn snake would have reloaded his Starbucks card and the sale not raising an eyebrow being old hat. LOL! For all I know it sent a text back to the den sayin there is a chucklehead in the woods.

neat video, man. i like snakes (i used to have 13 of them but now down to just 1). i keep my eyes open for 'em around here but i haven't seen a single venomous one though.

JV3.

In Jersey maybe check out the Delaware water gap area. The name of the trail looked promising to me. I talked with people on the AT passing by and some claimed to have seen Timbers in that area but I didn't.

When I was reading up on Timbers I read that they were becoming rare in some of the north east states. I used to see them here fairly often, but this one I saw last summer was the first one I have ran across in a few years. It had beautiful colors.

Man just from my personal experience, this year was a solid Timber year for me. I saw so many all over the state, and we lost a hunting dog to one in South Carolina. Something really made them move this year in my observations.

Here is a picture of one of my albino atrox's when it was a baby. I don't have any recent pics:

Here is a picture of my Red Diamond Rattler:

And one of my baby Mojave's:

The atrox have the worst attitude, but I consider the Mojave's to be the deadliest snakes that I own. The calmest rattlers are the red diamonds, and the speckled's. At least in my experience. Oh, and Sidewinders are usually pretty calm too.
