What can you tell me about the SOG Government? I ordered one today, and get it next week, with any luck. What type of steel? Up at ag russells the only steel info they had was high carbon.

Hi Maurice,

The Government is a great knife that I think is often overlooked.

The steel anomaly reference you are seeing likely could be clouded by its history. Let me give you the three models of the Government over the years. All have the same general appearance (such as blade length, blade grind, handle construction, etc.), with the following exceptions:
  • Government: This is the original knife featuring a satin finished AUS6 Stainless steel blade (model number S13).
  • Recon Government: Or sometimes just called the “Recon.” It had a blued blade made of SK-5 carbon steel for a covert version of this knife. All steel surfaces were blued carbon steel.
  • Government Agent: About 1-2 years ago, this replaced the Recon as our “covert” model of the Government. It features our proprietary gray powder coating (which is used on other SOG knives) on AUS6 Stainless steel. I believe it used the same part number as the Recon (S21). The Agent is the knife pictured above.
The one thing that sticks out in my mind that significantly sets this knife of as different, is the outstanding “balance” that it has. Of course, it is not a throwing knife, but just by holding it in your hand, it just feels right! Not too heavy...not too light...not blade heavy...in other words, just right!

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Yeah, the one im looking at is the satin finished aus6 one. AG's got em for something like 65 bucks,IIRC,so how could I resist?
