Anyone here have one?
Do you like it?
Most importantly, if we ask nicely, do you think they'll make more?

I have one. I like it. It is special as it belonged to Rusty Slate. He was a longtime forumite here and he passed on a little while ago. They were all the rage for a while and I think they will be popping up from time to time. HI is sort of shaking down it's product line right now, so the requests might have to wait a while, but I don't think we've seen the last of them.

I have a sandan wood handled one. I'd love an antler handled one. I haven't seen them for sale in a while.

I love mine because its cool and a wicked stabby thing. Without a guard, that's a bit dangerous if you're not careful. It did a better job doing chopping chores than I expected; not chopping like the AK Bowie, but faster and not getting hung up on the wood. The sheath is absolutely useless. I don't know what it does better than other things in the HI line up.

I say buy one if you have a chance. I actually have as many HI knives as khuks at this point and they can be quite useful around the house and camp. In fact, thanks for reminding me of it, I might pull it out and see how it works as a kitchen cleaver\knife.

The seax is in my top five HI favs. In my big trunk o' khuks I have 5 layers ranging from the "why did I buy ANOTHER one of these" on the bottom up to my most beautiful and used knives. The Seax is right up there. Great for putting holes in things. Great for cutting up melon and trimming the fat on meat. The handle has this palm swell thing going on so it pretty much always feels rock solid in the hand. The seax is pretty useful to whomever picks it up. However, if you are of Celtic or Norse blood it will sing to you tales of soldiering, plundering, and you might even find yourself gazing glassy-eyed out into nothing. Hearing the metered fall of the rowing drum, oar in hand, crusted salt clinging to your clothing joints. Or, maybe you'll find yourself gripping the hilt in fear and rage watching the dark dragon boats row up closer and closer to your rolling green shores...again.
Like I said. It's a personal favorite.

I'm a ultilitarian guy, and haven't aquired one, but everyone who owns a Seax seems to love them. I don't recall a single thread titled; "I hate my Seax and Life is meaningless".

They will be around.

I traded mine with bamboo ..not that its not a great knife but what he had I liked more and he liked the seax more... I never got to try it but I bet it would have punched right through a 55 gal drum

I have confirmed that;) Didn't even mar the tip, just a little duller and some scratches down the blade.

email Yangdu - she has several in the shed. ;)

hi blackbeard, thought you got hung back in the 17th century,

lotsa good info on seax's here on our forum, do a forum search on 'seax' & you'll get more info on them than you probably want ( i even stuck up a pic of one (non-HI) with a guard on it). seem to recall a video of someone making holes in stuff with one, probably satori & some beer cans....anyway happy hunting.

Guilty as charged on the vids, but for once it was in the quest for knowledge, and not simply to just chop stuff up and make a mess. (Mostly.)

I'm very pleased with mine. It doesn't get used much on account of the company it keeps. I would like to take it out camping sometime to see just how well it works as a do-anything knife for an extended period of time but between the khuks and the 'hawks and that thrice-darned Sarge knife (which rendered at least ten other knives obsolete in a single camping trip) it's difficult to do.

The HI Seax is a diamond in the rough.
Order one, then have it sent to Dan for convexing, a stag handle and a new, better sheath. Then its off to Keith (ferrous wheel) for viking runes to be etched into the blade.
It doesnt get much better than that...

Note on above post:

I feel it is part of my responsibility to inform the public and forum members here in HI forum that until Ferrous (Keith) returns to the forum and corrects unfinished business he has with two projects, that he cannot be reccomended for any work.

Thanks and sorry,

munk
