If anyone travels through, or lives in the area and hasn't been to Holiday World (Santa Claus Indiana) it got a double thumbs up today. The park was super clean, the employees nice and friendly (even the cute ones) and the family had a great time. Nice atmosphere, as an old college advisor used to say "A clean Wholesome" enviroment.

They provide free soft drinks and sun lotion too! I know that we have a few members from this area, and I really recommend a visit.

That sounds much better than the amusement parks we have in Ohio. Glad my boys are pretty much over wanting to go to those places. They don't even talk about them, to my knowledge. We have even avoided Disney World. :D

Holiday World rocks!:D
I've watched Holiday World grow and thrive every year. Guys, it is the hands-down cleanest theme park you will ever, EVER, go to. Great rides. Nothing like a Six Flags or anything, but they have 2 of the top 5 wooden coasters in the world. Both are pretty fun. Their waterpark is GREAT! Think about it. You pay about 20 bucks or so a person to get into a theme park with the expected rollercoasters, kiddie rides, eateries, etc...THEN you find that your admission gains you access to a HUGE water park with 4 or 5 slides, play areas, and a wave pool:) I visit Holiday World at least once a year. I only live 45 mins or so from there. As a matter of fact, i've organized a company outing there for July 10th. 2 Sunday's off in a row. WOOHOO!
Just some fast facts about the place from a southern indiana boy;)
Holiday World was actually the first theme park. Originally it was called Santa Claus Land and was based around Christmas.
Later, it became Holiday World. Christmas, Halloween, and the 4th of July all have little sections in the park with appropriate rides.
Holiday World was voted the friendliest and cleanest theme park in America...In yo' face, Mickey Mouse!

So yeah, i think Holiday World is OK;)

You could be right, Danny. This is just information that i overheard watching something on the travel channel. ya know, flipping through and seeing something about a place close to home and your ears perk up. I'm not familiar with many amusement or theme parks other than Holiday World. basically, i'm not a rides kind of guy and i don't get away from work much:)
As a matter of fact, what is Kenneywood? Is it an amusement park or a theme park? Is there a difference? I thought amusement parks where just that...a place where rides and such were set up to enjoy. I thought a theme park had some kind of "running gag" like having all the rides match up to a holiday or deal with a giant androgenous mouse.
Like i said, i dunno nuffin' 'bout nuffin when it comes to most stuff:)

There was a small monument close to the entrance/exit of the park that made the same Claim (worlds first amusement park), I first thought about Coney Island, there was some kind of park like that here in Louisville too back int he day. But apparently there are differences?

Anyway, I just wanted to not that there are still great places to go that aren't national in scope, like disney-X.

I'll bet you're thinking of Fontaine Ferry Park (usually mispronounced "Fountain"), but it's predated by others. Holiday World's site says it was started in 1946, which is even more recent that F.F., but they make the claim of being the nation's first "Theme" park, not "Amusement" park. Since they're near Santa Claus, IN, I suppose the Theme is, uh, Thanksgiving?

Thanks Falling knife, you seem to know a lot about this, from the area? Actually the park wasn't TOO christmassy, it seemed to have halloween and patriotic stuff as well.

Mom used to talk about folks going to "fountain ferry", isn't history grand?

Yeah, I've got some vague childhood memories of Fountain(sic) Ferry and am a bit of an history buff.

I've seen the ads for Holiday World claiming how clean they are. Glad to hear it's true. Some amusement parks are just kind of icky and too expensive.

Here's another thumbs up for Holiday World. Definitely a great value for the whole family.
