Where, and WHAT, is the R1 and R2???

You asked...this is the R1...it arrived in today's mail with a lovely note from Yangdu!

An awesome new zombie killer...er..."Stick Knife". A new design by the new shop manager Raj. It measures 15 1/4" at its longest point, 2 1/2" wide at the point...um...end. It's a hair over 3/8" thick and although I have no scale, I'd estimate it at around 26 ounces. The handle is thick enough to be comfortable for me (large hands) and it has a definite hump to positively position in *two* different grips...one for full power and one for a choked up grip. Just got it here, so no work report yet...but I will soon!

The next day...

I tried it a bit last night...anything you could reasonably call a "stick" simply separates with a single swipe. I had a log of about the right diameter to match the radius of the blade as a backer and had a bit of fun treating the wood as if it were a celery stick under a chef's knife. Of course, the celery was oak and up to about 2" in diameter.

Chop, chop, chop...

It also worked wonderfully for delimbing...

Continued...

There have been great comments about this knife, so I thought I would give it its own thread. Yangdu followed up with this one:

The differences include a plain wood butt instead of the brass piece, an inch shorter overall and what appears to be about 5 ounces lighter weight.

Munk has indicated that he has expressed interest in this model to Yangdu...we'll see if more come.

I think it's a great tool...and more.

Sign me up:) when these start becoming more common place, i'm going to have to get one.

Very interesting. Looks like it would be a great tool to have. Also looks like it would very, very effective at what it's designed to do.

If delimbing or chopping is on your work list, this thing is amazing and actually *fun* to use. It really does make stick work into a sort of *He-Man* veg-o-matic operation. The edge itself snips through like nothing (watch your fingers) and the hooked portion snags and snips off small stuff like it's not even there (did I warn you to watch your fingers?)

Super tool...and I just started using it!

Thanks Nasty. Personally I think the original design and weight you got is the way to go. 21 oz. might not do the job quite as easily.

Looking forward to getting one someday.

P.S. Just double checked and it appears it is only a 3 oz. difference between yours and the new one. Just a normal variation. For balance I would prefer the brass butt and slightly heavier aspect.

Thanks,

Norm

How about a field test? We don't have the stick poking smiley, but I hear a heck of a lot of people saying heavier and bigger is better but I never see any pics that show that these are actually being used.

Hmm...I didn't take any pictures of the cutting, but I *could* send you a box of the little pieces.

Maybe you could glue them back together.

I think it's safe to say that the chopping pics would be less than dramatic. Well, less dramatic than Dave taking apart an RCA so-called MP3 player.

When did I say that I had two of these of different weights or lengths to use and compare anyway Hollow? Did I miss something or are you just sniping?

Norm...I don't know which the original one was...only which Yangdu shipped here for me to test and which was later posted for sale.

"Stick Knife" is a mini-kora. Cool!

That was pretty much my impression of it. The stick knife seems to be to the Kora what the khukuri is to the Falcata.

After Nasty's review I just might have to get one of these.
