In the summer time, drying leather is much more low-tech...set it on a window sill and let the sun do the job.
Not so easy in the winter....haven't seen the sun all week...
I've been thinking of this idea for some time, finally got all the hi-tech parts I needed and here tis....
$12 at a big box "let's build something together" store got me this small electric space heater/fan........big box....and dish rack I found in a kitchen cabinet (she won't notice it's missing till.......Thanksgiving maybe??)....and presto......got myself a dryer......hot air swirls around that box just perfectly.....tried it out today and works great.
Thank you very much.:D

Very cool! Do you use that after dying and wetforming?

I just wired and programmed it today:D...and that little holster you see there is the first project I used it on.
I had it good and wet for initial molding, then into the box for about 10 minutes, a little more molding, til I liked it....then dye...then left it in there til dry......about 30 minutes.....then left it lay around in the shop while I worked on other things. By evening it was dry enough for top finish (Tan-Kote)

Nice idea - I generally just hang them above a floor register. slower, but works pretty well.

Too hi-tech for me. I would likely break something...

Besides - who has time to download the new firmware for that thing all the time!

Slick rig, Ray ! I often use a fan without the heater. Works well but probably not as rapidly as your setup. --Sandy--

Ray, do you notice any heat hardening of your sheaths when using that setup? I've been researching different methods of making knife sheaths harder, and heated drying was one of those mentioned.
