I've been pretty seriously into knives and edged tools for several decades...in the 1980's, I used to go to the New York Knife Show every year and order something custom made from one of the top makers of the day. I was a fan of "Real Bowies"...and I thought I knew everything, or at least a heck of a lot. Back then I used to pay $800-$1200 EASILY for a knife that wasn't capable of doing half the work that these khukuris can do, and these khukuris do that work with less effort. I also used to wait months for a knife.

I am now getting knives that are made the OLD WAY and have real character. Knives that show that character proudly because they are made by master craftsmen, much like a handmade Bowie from the VERY BEST American makers 100-150 years ago might have had.

I consider myself lucky to be able to help support people who are making the finest tools possible and doing it with traditional methods. They are creating nothing less than a piece of art that has literally been imbued with spirit. What the people of HI are doing is a great gift that is very rare in the modern world. Every time I buy a knife from them, it is an honor to receive such a gift.

And Yangdu is the best, she's totally awesome!!! THINK ABOUT IT...the head honcho, THE BIG KAHUNA, takes a genuine and special interest in every single purchase you make, EVERY SINGLE ITEM..
...and we all benefit, the buyers, the makers...
...and a truly GREAT tradition is kept alive...
...and it makes the world a better place...

(so there's my rant, thanks for listening)

My past closely mirrors yours as does the sentiment. All I can say is "Ditto!" ... that and I hope Thamar heals quickly - else I'll have withdrawals!

Yes snowwolf, i know...I may be a little wordy, but I'm honest...

I'm just shocked at how well made these knives are. I bought two AK15's and two CAK 16.5's and they have just the right feel for me. Their weight, balance and the way they swing and bite into the hardwood that I process is amazing. Im going to give the horn handle CAK to the older of my two daughters. She's pretty hardcore when it comes to backpacking and winter camping out in the Whte Mountains. She also spends a lot of time hiking and camping in the desert and arid mountains out west.

I also ended up with three 9.5 inchers. I'm going to give one to my youngest daughter. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with the other two, but for some reason I find these small khukuris very interesting.

I've also got a thing for tomahawks and puukos, but that's a whole nother topic...

Oh, and AK's and single action 1873's in 45 colt, but please don't get me started on that, because I'll never shut up...

Peace Be With You...
