Good afternoon gentlemen, just joined the forum :)

After several reviews I read speaking high of CRK fit and finish quality, I decided to place an order for a CRK Umnumzaam Wilson Tactical - due this Wedsnesday; I hope moving to CRK not to run any longer in misaligned blades, scratches on new knives or obvious failures in QT.:barf: in 400+ $ knives.

I have a doubt about CRK framelock, though - in some knives a stop is placed on the Ti frame to avoid overextending the lock when opening it; it seems like a sound idea to me, so I wonder: what CRK do? Is the clip used for that regards? If so it wouldn't be a good idea to remove the clip, right?

Thanks!

dont worry about it. you can remove the clip if you want with no problems. it only presses against the frame slightly anyway. and ive always found that the hinderer type lockbar stabilizers were more for looks and wow factor than for actual performance enhancement.

in otherwords, the lack of one of these stabilizers will in no way decrease the performance and security of your zaan.

You won't have any QT issues with Chris Reeve Knives. First and foremost. ;)

I haven't ever seen hyperextension of the lockbar to be an issue or concern on any knife, although I guess it is possible given the recent "tests" that have gone around. If you screw with the lockbar tension you will take the knife out of spec and that will cause issues. I don't think that will happen in normal use though.

Fair Warning!

It's not in the box with the Wilson Combat Umnumzaan - the warning should be, that's for sure. It's a simple fix - an average lemon and another sharp knife are required. Quarter said lemon - place a quarter in between your teeth, bite down, and slurp said lemon - then open the new 'zaan box. It's the only way to get rid of that 'possum eatting poop out of a hairbrush' smile that will overtake you upon first gaze. Otherwise, your face might freeze that way - people would think you either had Bell's Palsy - or were simple. Not good. Repeat as required - more lemons may be required.

Now, if you manage to mangle your knife, clean off the sledge hammer marks and vise teeth prints before sending it back and they'll fix or replace it. I love that knife! My best CRK... okay, my only CRK!

All you have to do is look at the 20+ year history of the sebenza to see that a lock-bar stabilizer is not needed. I have Never Ever heard or read of a lock-bar failing on a CRK because of the lockbar being over extended. Chris uses a double cut-out which I think and feel makes a stiffer spring. Plus his cut-outs are on the inside.......All folders that I can think of that have lockbar stabilizers have the single cutouts on the outside. Does this make for a slightly weaker spring needing the lockbar stabilizers ???

Maybe Mr. Reeve will chime in and confirm his reasoning.

All I know is that I trust Mr. Reeve and his knives. Should I ever have an issue, I go directly to him and he makes it right. Over the years of collecting CRK, I know that any time I have questioned a CRK design, I have been wrong. Chris puts his knives through everything you could think of before we ever get our hands on them. So you could say his designs are fool proof !

Thanks everyone, Wilson Tactical arrived and yes, it's something - really like the shape of the blade and the way they customized the grip.
I removed the clip (that had a little play when gripping the knife) and I'll try a Benchmade pouch for carry as per Stainz suggestion.

Regards
