your favorites, recommend them to me :D

im looking for a new pair of boots for all around activities... from hazardous areas to construction sites to long term hiking. waterproof, acid proof, nail proof. something i can walk or run in reasonably well. something light. something that will last nearly forever with maintenance. something i can use in summer or winter. bascally the ultimate all-around boots. ho ho does it exist?

right now for example im looking at some Browning Featherweights and Filson Highlanders

p.s. someone should make caulked boots with retractable spikes

i love my combat jump boots millitary issue all leather...they are great...but the heel does eat my socks sometimes.....

not to be a smartass, but the best boots for you will be the ones you're most comfortable in.

Filson makes good boots but they don't make a boot wide enough to fit my foot. I ended up buying a pair of Red Wings. They are comfortable, hard wearing and the shop will oil them for you and give you free laces.

Compared to Filson they are cheap as well.

Zamberlan mountain lites are excellent walking boots but I'm not sure about their suitability in the other areas you mention

You may be better with 2 pairs of boots, hazardous areas and construction sites call for toe caps and steel shanks, which arent ideal when hiking long distance.

Go with the Filson Boots, I love their products and guaranee they will last you a very long time. All of their products are heavy duty "bullet proof" from outer wear to boots and just be sure to take care of them so they take care of you! :)

Scarpa, all the rest are just wannabee's. ;)

Well made boots, I had a pair once. They are just too narrow for my feet. Thats why I like my Zamberlans, they come with oars :)

I like Danner's, too. I had a pair of Mountain Hikers that I wore every day for ten years...and by then they'd started disentigrating. Finally, I stepped in a pile of poo that was too huge to even want to try cleaning from the Vibram soles, and I tossed them. One nice thing about Danner's is that they carry some styles in EE widths.

P.S. I think that I'll look-into Filson boots, too, to see how they stack up. I need new boots and Danner's can give someone "sticker shock."

IIRC, Filsons cost more than danners. They look nice though. I think the only colour choice is brown.
FWIW, I love my danners, best boots I've ever owned.

Whatever fits you best, especially for the long term hiking.

After going through many pairs of hiking boots, my (now discontinued) Asolo AFX 520 GTX are my favourite. For work and everyday wear I have a pair or completely metal free Cofra safety boots. They are light weight, have a great sole, composite toe and kevlar footplate. They are not nearly as comfortable as my hiking boots and wouldn't want to do any long hikes in them though.

I think you will find that most sefety boots are not the right thing for hiking.

Really? I have really wide feet and I find Scarpa some of the best fitting boots. Hmmm

My thoughts exactly - I've had mine for 12 years now and they are still going strong - beautifully made boots.
