We all know how hard it is to find quality replacement handles. Here's a blog with a bunch of manufacturers listed. Some of them are well know, but it's nice to have them all in one place. There's also some old images of the Defiance lathe that's been used to make handles since the 1800s

Interesting to watch some of these old machines in action. Surely with computer numerical control and carbide cutters much less complication and waste is involved these days but then again maybe there isn't much demand for handles anymore. Orienting and cutting the blanks and reading the grain during install on the install would have been a trade skill at one time.

Actually, many of these machines are still in use. My experience is that the handle industry has been very slow to adopt new technology. I don't know of a single manufacturer making handles with CNC technology. If someone knows one that is, by all means let me know!
