Hey Guys, Im kinda new to this, this is my first time making a hidden tang knife EVER, an it looks pretty good. im not sure how to pin the handle tho, i am limited to a hand drill, 2 c-clamps, and some tape. How do i align everything properly so my pin slides right in?
I do realize i could just epoxy the crap outta it, but i would rather use a pin for an added mechanical connection.

also imma kid whose making his 3rd knife. any advice is appreciated!

Thnx

hello :) post this in the bladesmiths question and answer section for more options. i epoxy the tang in before drilling the hole. that way there is nothing to line up.

i had thought abt that, but if i drilled the pin hole while epoxy was already set, wouldnt the friction of the drill bit melt the epoxy?

Drilling thru the epoxy/tang won't melt the epoxy, but you do really need to be sure the tang is soft enough to drill. Depending on type of knife it might not need a pin. Most kitchen knifes that use a hidden tang (Wa handle) don't use a pin. I will notch the tang a few places on each side to give the epoxy a better grip. Another option is to drill an oversized hole in the tang, mark carefully where to drill the handle after assembly. The oversized hole is going to fill with epoxy giving a solid connection.

ok thanks. im making a very small knife, with a short and fat blade, the most use ittl get is some whittling and box and rope cutting
