Recommendation? Hidden Tang width

I recently obtained a few elk antlers, and will try something different to the usual wood scales.

I designed a drop point blade that will be about 3 1/4" long, 1 1/4" wide, using 1/8" bar. The handle will be approximately 4" long. Will a 1/4" wide hidden tang (3" long) be strong enough?

Thanx for the info...

What steel? What type of guard? Sounds like you're trying to keep the tang narrow to fit the antler. In a situation like that you might be able to keep the tang fairly wide as it passes through the guard and then step it down so that it will fit into the antler part of the handle. Most of the stress on the tang is up front. Also a metal guard can have pretty thin walls , thinner than you want to go on antler. A good healthy radius in the corners is a must!
(That might not have made sense, I wish I could draw pictures on here!)
