Anyone know anything about this knife? I'm looking for some type of fixed blade that will be easily concealed... This looked like a pretty good option. Keep in mind my profession (education), so it needs to be EXTREMELY concealable... Here's the link if you haven't seen it...

What else would be a good option for me? What about the Boker Specialist??

Thanks for the input and the great forum!

Hopefully you've really thought this out. Fixed blade on school grounds -- that's a felony in some states, isn't it? Whatever you choose, I strongly suggest finding a good option that's legal.

In CA, you can have a fixed blade up to 2.5 inches on school campuses, but you can't conceal it.

There are so many nice fixed blade small knives out there.

Spyderco Spot; Spyderco Ronin; Falkniven WM-1;Tomey mini-Tac; Perrin Street Surgeon, the list goes on.

I enjoy small fixed blades as my first defensive choice; a good folder follows second.

Whatever you decide, don't forsake cover that is so deep that you cannot acquire the knife quickly and surely.

2.5 blades with no mention of fixed or folder for adults visiting the school or working there and no restrictions on multitools. I decided the hassle factor was greater with a fixed blade for utility purposes so my utility school blade when visiting my siblings is a crkt urban shark and my deep concealment blade is a crkt fixed falcon around the neck.

I've carried neck knives of different flavors over the years.

I have the following with custom neck sheaths from Mike Sastre:

Civilian
Military
Old Endura
Old Delica
police model
Crkt Necker
LaGriffe

The thinner longer neck knives seem to get in the way sometimes and the Sastre neck rigs with the above are bulkier and heavier on the neck than I like for EDC as well.

I have settled on the LaGriffe as it is light, flat, not too long and hidden well under a t-shirt/jersey if necessary in the summer.

They are all okay for ocassional carry but get heavy and subsequently cumbersome during the day. The longer bladed neck knives sit too low usually for me and in an active environment get in the way at times.

If I didn't have two LaGriffs now the hideaway would be the carry necker for me. It looks like somehting I could carry everyday and not notice it until it was needed.

Get yourself a Gerber Yari...It's an excellent (slim) knife that comes with a clip-on "plastic" sheath that can be worn IWB.

The Hideaway is a really remarkable knife, IMO.
I suggest you go over to www.selfdefenseforums.com and look for information on it, as its design process happened a great deal on the forum in the Womens Self Defense section (as the designer is a woman).
In my opinion as an end user and knife maker I have not seen a better small defensive knife. Because of the specific blade shapes used any of the models will un-doubtedly cut like much larger knives, especialyl in a defensive situation. The steel used is excellent and, the very best feature IMO is that the retention of the knife will be second to none - and speed of access will also be quite fast.
For the price you get a hell of a package, with a lot of options - and there will soon be a video available specifically for it (although it will translate to other knives), done by a gentleman (known around the forums as SouthNarc) who DEFINATELY knows his stuff about close quarter blade work.

I have one on order - and am greatly looking forward to it.

Right now I carry a La Griffe, which I think is the best production necker available - better than the Spyderco SPOT, because you can thrust with it as well as slash and the handle seems more comfortable to me.

I have NO use for small neck knives that dont offer retention on the level of the La Griffe or the HideAway.
WAAAAY to many knives that are decent for utility are touted as decent for defense, when they arent because they lack good retention - on smaller knives especially this is a concern. Your hand will be covered in sweat, blood, and possibly other bodily fluids, and you NEED a knife that will stay in your hand.
One other advantage to such a level of retention, you can open your hands to strike and grapple, or to use a firearm, without losing hold of the knife, and without the knife getting in your way.

Get a HideAway - to heck with the rest of 'em that have little or no guard, and nothing to keep your hand from sliding off the back - sure they will work, but wouldnt you rather not chance it?

:p

hey satin-

Do you know about how long those things are taking to ship out?? I ordered one yesterday and was wondering about how long the wait will be. Thanks for the help!

Vermy: Thanks for bringing the Mid-Tech Bitter Root to my attention. I've been looking for something along those lines for a while and that looks great! I just ordered one.

I think they are taking about 4 months to get made and delievered - not bad considering each one is made to order, to fit each customer specifically.
Dont hold me to that though - I'm not involved other than being a fan of the design.

You really need to stay legal if you can. You can get into more trouble then you can believe if you break the rules and get caught.
Many schools have a zero tolerance for anything that even thinks of breaking the rules. I know of a school that does not allow plastic knives or forks in school and a student was suspended for carrying a metal fork in her lunch.
Your union will most likely not support you and many will come out against you in public.
If you can i would suggest an impact weapon such as a heavy long ruler, stick ,mug or bottle. If you can carry a small blade I believe a cold steel utility fixed blade such as their ready edge is the best. They have the para edge or super edge if you need a larger blade. They are very useful, carries easy and low cost. Do not expose
to others and you should be all right. They are used for opening items and cutting fruit if asked and the small blade in single edge design is easier to explain then a 3 inch plus boot knife.
