Have any of the Kamis ever tried water buffalo wrapped handles? They'd do a nice job of covering up cosmetic cracks and other small issues, plus it'd be durable and very grippy and shock absorbing.

I have other knives I have wrapped with raw hide and I did wrap one of my Tamangs with Hemp Thread over the satisal handle to give it some more diameter and a bit better grip. I have been wrapping various handles with cotton, hemp and 550 cord for a while now. Either over the existing handle or after removing the older handle and find it to be an easy way to rehandle an old knife.

On another, equally practical note, that could also allow for the making of more brightly-colored handles: the use of "dyed hide." On the other hand, there's very likely to be a valid, time-tested reason for NOT doing it...

I have a paracord-wrapped handle on a Bura CAK... very grippy, comfy..
