I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ARE SOME GOOD FIXED BLADE KNIVES THAT HAVE HIGH CARBON STEEL BLADES. I LIKE THE GREEN RIVER KNIVES BUT WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A LONGER AND THICKER ( 3/16 OR SO ) BLADE. ALSO , I WOULD LIKE TO GET A SHEATH WITH IT. I AM LOOKING FOR A KNIFE THAT WILL BE USED A LOT CAMPING AND HUNTING. I ALSO LIKE THE OLD HICKORY BUTCHER KNIVES AS FAR AS SIZE BUT DISLIKE THE MARKS ON THE BLADES.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE KNIVE THAT CRAZY CROW SELLS?

THANKS,

CUT EM UP

I bought a Cold Steel "Recon" that is a hard steel but has a black coating on it to keep down the rust. Good hard knife, I used the dickens out of it anywhere from chopping wood to cutting up chicken and it held up real well. two complaints one I have scratched up the black coating a bit and two can only sharpen it with a diamond stone/ rod. The knife cost me 78 bucks not a bad investment for as much as I have used it.

Take a look at some of the Scandinavian fixed blades at http://www.ragweedforge.com. Many models are available in carbon. These are excellent quality steel esp. for the $$$. Blade thicknesses are provided in most cases.

FWIW, I've bought some of the Helle & Karesuando blades in stainless to make blind-tang wooden handled hunting/camp knives & have been very pleased. I've also ordered some of the low-cost Ericksons for fishing knives; for $12 you can't go wrong. The stainless is fine but my next order will include some carbon blades anyway -- just a bit easier to sharpen.

Hope this is helpful,

Andrew

I believe Schrade Old Timer has one for a reasonable price.
I can't remember the number.

Good luck,
Allen.

I agree with Andrew. Ragnar at Ragweed Forge offers a great selection of Scandinavian knives and excellent customer service. I just received a Helle Viking from Ragnar today. It's a recreation of a Viking period belt knife in carbon steel and is a simple no-nonsense razor sharp knife. Check out the Eriksson Mora models. You can get the basic # 1 model for just 8 bucks, but I recommend the model 22 available with a traditional leather sheath in either carbon steel (light handle)$24.00 or stainless steel (dark handle) $25.00:

a kampr from knifeware makes a good reasonablly priced camp knife. A kabar f/u makes a good camp knife also. I used a kabar, and ontario f/u for 8yrs in the AF, 6 months of it in Desert shield/storm. makes a good all around knife!!! for around 25 dollars you can get an ontario, for about 39 you can get a kabar, for about 88 you can get a kampr, and add 11 dollars to that and you can get knifewares multi-carry sheath.

hope this helps :)
