i am really digging a forum members work(bona),but i have a question about the steel high carbon NC6.i have tried looking it up an found that it is similar to 52-100,which i like, but can be a bit brittle..i look at the charts but the number thing just confuses me..anyone has some hands on experience with this steel,i hunt there fore it will be a user, any info would be appreciated (good or bad) ...aloha

Number thing ? The 52 indicates 1.30-1.60 Cr . the 100 indicates high carbon .98-1.10 C It doesn't have to be brittle , just HT it right.

Here's the system for Polish steels including NC6
The higher Carbon would make the NC6 a bit more brittle and the Vanadium would produce a finer grain size.

You can get a Polish steel in HI ? I'm surprized if you can't get 52100 , it's vwery common.

Are you going to hunt the little HI piggies ?

I have a 52100 kitchen knife that some idiot used to chop up a whole roasted pig with, bones and all. The edge didn't chip out too badly. Took me less than an hour to repair the edge damage, so not too bad.

I'd like to hear from someone who can translate properly from Polish . From reading the info he brine quenches NC6 to bainite ???

I am thinking of buying a custom knife from our knife maker/member (Bona) ...any info,,he uses NC6
