HI there all, it's December already and i'm buying myself a new folder knife most likely for my gift to myself. With practicality into consideration, i want a big folder knife 7-8' opened and you know 2-3' closed. I want to carry it in a sheath/pouch, not in the pocket for my reasons. Does anyone carry in this way, i'm sure it's similar to the multi- tools in how they are carried. Any pictures will be great. The folder i'm interested are the Kershaw, zero tolerances. Lastly, what are your suggestions on 7-8' folder knives, intended to be carried in a pouch/sheath.

Something like this for carry

"i want a big folder knife 7-8' opened and you know 2-3' closed."

that does not compute, but why not try the Buck 110...always a good place to start.

ok even assuming you meant 7-8inch open and 2-3inches closed that's not so likely since the vast majority of folders fold in one place meaning it would be impossible for such a knife's closed length to be less than half it's open length.

Usually an 8" folder would have a 3.5" blade and a 4.5" handle. A Kershaw JYDII with the composite blade would run around $80.00 and give you a very nice folder. For the ZT's, I think the 0200 is the most talked about and a very good starting poiunt. If you like tanto's, then the ZT0400 with S30V steel might be to your liking. Check out www.knivesshipfree.com and take a look at their folder sheaths. Very nice!:D

I am tempted to agree with cutter. I think a JYD II or ZT0200 would work well for you. Look at Maxpedition's line of pouches for sheathing options, or, consider having one of our fine leather stitchers make you up a nice custom sheath. Gary W. Graley makes some killer molded folder leather.

The Kershaw Tyrade is still available in the original Titanium handle. It's a large knife, and I carry it in a side-ways Nylon sheath (actually a Microtech sheath that came with my Scarab)

Or you can find the G10 handled Tyrades.

I'll put another suggestion for the JYDII TiSG2, if you can find one.

That MT Sheath get's a lot of carry, as all my large folders ride in it, including the Scarab, LCC D/A, Tyrade, JYDII, Buck 110, and Blue Titanium Bump. It's my main mode of carry.

Thanks guys, i'm glad you guys knew what i meant when open the folder i want it to be 7-8 inches close, okay 4.25' etc. I'm going to look into the knives you recommended, teh biggest folder i have is a junky smith & wesson "50 caliber knife," it's huge i like it, but want something better quality.

What do you guys think about this, kinda ugly though but what i'm looking for! I'm going to check out the kershaws!

ON the handles with the knife, since they are not metal, will the screws strip easily that hold the pocket clip? As in the case with my smith and wesson folder.
I'm checking out the ZT 0200. Checked out the buck kalinga, huge f'n knife, well not huge but shiny blades not good for work. But thanks for the options. Also what are the real life dimensions for the ZT 0200's 302' etc. enclosed dimensions to be clear, LxW?

I have an LFK:

I wouldn't call it "ugly"

It's a pretty durable knife for what it is, and the "fin" hasn't failed me yet. I've been carrying it for about a year with no problems.

The 0200 is a GREAT value knife as well, I love mine.

First thing to come to mind would be something from William Henry. Elegant, high quality folders that usually come with either a leather or rayskin sleeve/pouch.

Don't worry about the clip (or any other part) of the 0200. It screws solidly into thick, stainless-steel, liners. If anything ever goes wrong on any of the ZT knives, they have one of the best warranties in the business.

On the majority of mid to high end knives, I doubt you'd have any problem with the screws pullin out of the tapped holes.

Take a look at the Buck folding Kalinga. Its a large folder, comes with a classy looking leather pouch sheath brown in color. It has an upswept blade 4 inches, carries well on the belt and makes for a good user knife priced just over a hundred dollars.

Any of you have pictures of the kalinga i know what it looks like i just like to see actual real life pictures of it in use, is it a strong knife?

I have a Buck Omni Hunter 12pt. folding knife that is BIG. I love that thing and is so light to carry on my side and is very durable. I carry it alot when Im hunting. You should check it out. In my opinion, it doesnt get alot of respect or attention that it should. It is a strong lock back and has NO blade play at all. Its as tight as the day I bought it new 4 yrs ago.

Thank you sir, i almost for whatever reason bought a Glock 81 knife, but i held out! I'm really looking into the Buck Omni knife! Looks great with a pouch also! I'm going to find out where to buy one, suggestions?!
