i have a nice pair of sennheiser portable phones. unfortunaetly they are 32 ohm. my mp3 player is not loud enough w/ these. iwas hoping that 8 ohm phones would be louder. is this true?

if so, anyone have a source for real good 8 ohm portable headphones?

thanks............Bill

Your MP3 player will probably play sounder into eight-ohm headphones, yes. It was probably designed for eight-ohm speakers since most consumer-grade headphones are eight-ohms.

what you want is a pair of phones with higher sensitivity preferably over 100db. that means they will require less power to give u a specific sound pressure level. one of the worlds most sensitive phones are sennheiser hd25, the drivers are 70ohm, i suggest trying those in a store, if it isnt loud enough with those get a new mp3player. you should be able to play yourself deaf with anything wearing those

A headphone AMP may give you what you want. I have some AKG 240's on a tube amp and love it!

There are portable headphone amps that fit into an Altoids tin that drive difficult headphones with great sound quality. Google for CMOY.

headroom makes decent solid state portable headphone amps, so grab one =] (and use higher mp3 bitrates for the best sound (won't be CD quality, but still better))

thanks all.......i tried my friends lexar mp3 and its much louder than my san disk mp3. since i already have a ton of SD cards, i'll buy a lexar model w/o memory included for only $32.
