High-end Chinese Production Knives - Are they Good? (e.g. Reate, WE, LiongMah)

My definition of a high-end production knife is ~$300+.

Personally, the country of origin does not bother me a single bit - I mean nearly everything we wear, carry and use in our daily lives are born in that country!

I find it unfair that knives outside of USA are dismissed as inferior products. In actuality, they use the same darn materials!

What are your thoughts, BF?

Lastly, I am considering the Reate K-3 in Damasteel & MokuTi to be my next ($845) purchase.

I ditto Austonh. their are some amazing knives from China out there. My problem with these particular knives is price. I am not saying that they are expensive for what they are, on the contrary my problem is that I don't carry knives of that price range except for my Kershaw Tilt. I like to carry knives that are no more than $200.00 purchase price not retail. I have decided that I am going to sell off my expensive Chinese knives here in the Forum and get more carry knives up to about $ 250. and I will carry those. I have a few WE's, 2 Reate's and a few others. But getting back to the question, They make phenomenal knives. I never had to adjust the pivots,
oil the bearings or strop or resharpen them. They are on par or better than many high end American companies. I have decided to stick with American companies but they can be made in China. The Tenacious was first EDC knife. At least the profits are staying with an American company.

I have 2 WE knives and 3 Kizers. All of them ooooooze quality. Materials, workmanship etc.
I compare them to the Taichung Spydies.
Like someone said previously, I have not adjusted anything on them.
They all flip, or flick, beautifully with smooth action, lock up tightly, feel great in hand and all cut very well.
I have no complaints at all.
Never needed any CS, but it seems the manufacturers are taking care of that with warranty locations.
Been very impressed so far and looking forward to what they will do in the future.

From the sound of it, you seem to favor practicality over luxury. I'm alike in the sense I carry two knives: one pocket-gem and one beater e.g. PM2, 940, etc.

Also, care to toss any American company names in league with Reate? :p

Oddly enough I never leave the house without taking 2 knives for the same reason. Beater is usually Manix 2 XL, Para 2 s30v, Domino . The pocket queen might be Kershaw Tilt, Manix 2 XL S90V CF, Manix 2 Cruwear CF.

Check out Olamic or maybe Ferrum Forge?

Not USA, but maybe check out the Andre Thornburn A2 series from South Africa.

Try an A.G Russell model if you don't think the Chinese can make a knife equal or better than most American made products.
