Has anyone out there ever tried making damasus with CPM3V and mabe S30V or D2,
I would love to try that combination, I think S30V or D2 would contrast
with 3V well. What due you think? Would you be interested doing this. I
don't due any forging. What will it cost?

Thank You Leon Pugh leon.pugh@comcast.net

hey man i think mike norris or devin thomas has experimented with some high alloy stuff with D2 and maybe 154cm or something. check it out. havent found any info myself but i hear rumours

i have heard of even cpm154 and 3v mix
that i thing would be great
but i cant find any listed now i sorta wish the folks at crucible would make a batch of damascus like damasteel does

Devin Thomas has experimented with a combination of Timken Latrobes BG42 and 20CV. Kelly Cupples also has some of the same combination that he has welded into a billet. I'm not sure when he is planning on trying to weld it.

I work for Timken and convinced our steel business side to donate some sample material of each to these gentlemen. If I'm not mistaken, Devin requested more so that he could continue his experiments. I'm not sure where either of them have gotten up to this point in time.

Seems to me like it would be an interesting stainless mix.

Yes, that would be a go for me as well ! I'm just finishing up my first Blade made from "Damasteel" certainly not my last though. I really like this stuff , it looks great ! It grinds & finish's beautifully ! Great contrast ! All that is left to do is wait for feedback from my customer. I have a small piece left that will be put to work for me as a "Test Blade" too. Yes , I would buy some !!

S30V and D2 Damascus, How much fun would that be to finish. Sounds like my worst nightmare,
not to mention the cost, I know how much S30V and D2 cost now put them together:eek:
Imagine getting a two inch mark in a big flat grind

I like stainless damascus namely damasteel. I have done alot of work with it. It looks good and makes for a great knife. And I just love the look on peoples faces when I actully use a damascus knife. I made a hunting knife for myself a few years back and it has taken a real beating, If it wasn't so expensive I would make a lot more knives out of it.

Damasteel is great stuff. Machines very well and has great performance properties when hardened properly.
