High end folder bearing systems

Hi all,

I've been curious for a while about the high-end bearing systems used by some of the custom folder makers, such as the Darrel Ralph Maxx Glide system and the R.J.Martin roller thrust bearing system. I have a nice production folder, a Zero Tolerance 0200, that opens very smoothly and without any play, and it just uses basic washer bearings. So I'm wondering what the performance is like with one of the custom bearing systems? Is there a whole different level of smoothness and solidity? Of course I'm a huge fan of the beautiful designs by these custom makers, and their use of precision technology like this makes me want one of their knives even more. If only they were a bit more affordable...

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have a Wayne Clark PDK that has an outstanding pivot system. MOD's, MT's, and few others have stellar systems too. The Clark is the best I have seen though. You can tighten it as tight as you want and it will not effect opening smoothness at all. It is a bearing around the pivot screw and then thrust washers outside of that. Like glass to open. I like to fiddle with pivots and such and like to see what makes them tick also. keepem sharp
