Getting ready to purchase a higher end folder already have a hoback , Chris reeves , Mcnees , Todd begg , Curtis custom knives thinking of either a Shiragorov, a Koenig arius or a Darrel Ralph can I get some insight On what Would be the best direction to go most would have to be purchased on the second hand market and I feel the arius are priced uo a lot higher than retail compared to the shiro and Darrel Ralph asking for some in put on which way would you go out the 3 knife makers
Thanks

With ^^^that^^^ in mind, and possible recession looming, it might make sense to go with the most established cutler-- CRK. Great quality and value retainment, to boot.

I think the CRK is a great into to higher end. They are a known quantity, hold their value, and are actually a pretty solid hard use EDC. Chris Reeve designed the Sebenza to be a work knife that lasted a generation of hard use.

Have you looked at Hinderer? People either love them or hate them. If you like to accessorize then they have that going for them.

Shirogorov & Koenig are popular progressions from CRK, Hinderer and the like - for good reasons.

Also consider Rockstead, Thorburn, Holt and Zieba, among others

Well.....good hunting !
I generally stop at about $250.......
All my knives are users and above that price......I get nervous about losing the knife or wanting to baby it.........the future is uncertain so I'm holding back in buying especially higher priced knives.
I still have the urge but.........

If the is truly uncertain: a good knife may be worth it's weight in Gold! 👍

I have plenty of good knives.......
I just want to insure I have plenty of cash and other more important things. Buying a knife now is for the fun of collecting......I'd just put it on the stack I have now.

Tough call. I’m in the same boat and have also considered Holt, Rockstead, and Olamic. The latter two and Shiro seem fairly easy to find new. Holt and Koenig, not so much. I suspect that scarcity drives the secondary market pricing.

My William Henry EDC is a combination of parts from various knives. I have about $1000 into it. The most expensive W/H I’ve seen recently is a one off that is a similar model to mine, but the blade is Damascus vs ZDP-189, has no pocket clip, and is heavier (steel frame vs Ti). I guess the Ti is hard to engrave. Anyway, I saved $36,500 and have a more useful knife IMHO.View attachment 1741398View attachment 1741399View attachment 1741390View attachment 1741389

Is that thing hand engraved? Yea that things beautiful. I'd love to try one of the more simple William Henry's. I always lusted over them at the old knife shop I used to go to in Portland. Perfect little gentlemen's knife. Yea that titanium is a bear to machine!

It’s not only hand engraved, but it took the guy 1 year to do it. Hence the price tag.

What do you want? I tried justifying and rationalizing my purchases for years and its like chasing your tail. Now I'll make myself wait a few weeks to months to make a decision and then I buy it and enjoy it knowing my opinion is all that matters. Too many people have their hands in our pockets. Do what you want with what you're able to keep. Personally Shiro's do nothing for me. I also stay away from frame locks. If not for the lock, I'd have a large Sebenza Insingo, Hinderer XM24 spanto, a Spartan plague doctor, Curtis F3, probably an Arius, I think Marfione has a couple that are gorgeous, and easily a dozen more. There are so many gorgeous knives out right now.

shiros are very nice - but honestly I'm a bigger fan of the other high end russian maker, cheburkov

also worth checking out olamic :) post pics when you decide
