High end steel equal to high end sharpening?

Hello guys,

The one and only sharpening system i ever bought was the Lansky 4 Rod sytem and use it 'til this day.
Most of my knives have s30v steel, wich i love, but when i think of buying other knives in other steels like M390, s90v or ZDP-189 i always wonder if the sharpening system i own would be suficient to put a great edge on them.
You see, i'm no steel nor sharpening expert but i do like having some nice knives.
What i don't like is that to be able to appreciate a nice knife in the above mentioned steels i would have to spend hundreds of $ to buy something like the wicked edge.
I mean, i'm a knife lover but in no way a sharpening afficionado.
I'm happy when my knives cut paper clean so i don't need mirror edges.
So guys what do you think, high end steel really requires high end sharpening systems?

thanks for looking:)

Nope they really don't require them, but it will take slightly longer to reprofile them, sharpening won't take all that much longer.

Thanks for the reply Ankerson:)
I should've posted this way before because this doubt always kept me away from knives like that:D
thanks again

The most important thing is getting the correct bevel, after that they really aren't bad at all to maintain, not that much different than S30V.

You might think about obtaining a course or medium diamond stone for your Lansky to use for initial profiling, and then finishing out on your existing stones. The diamonds will cut much faster and with less wear than the standard stones. You can buy them separately from most suppliers.

Blessings,

Omar
