I just bought 1500 grit gatorgrit sandpaper from my local hardware store. I was wondering if I could use that with my edgepro to put a more polished finish on my knives.

If so how would you mount it to the blank. I have the 3m 77 spray but I thought that would be to difficult to get on and off each time I want to switch paper.

I clean my blanks well with mineral spirits and then alcohol and use a spray product similar to the 77 (can't remember the brand off-hand.) I spray both the backing on the sandpaper and the blank, wait a minute and then stick 'em together. They peel apart easily when needed but I find they don't stick that well if you try to stick them back together.

3M Repositionable Adhesive 75 This clear adhesive provides tape-like bonds on many lightweight materials and adheres in seconds, yet has an extra-long tack range that allows you to lift and reposition materials. It is an excellent for production line work where parts are held in place temporarily prior to final assembly. Uses include Bonding paper, cardboard, acetate, foil, fabrics, sheeting, etc. It is free of bleed through, staining or wrinkling most materials. From the 3m website

Is buying high grit sandpaper a good replacement for the polish tape offered by edgepro? If I can get a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of 1500 sand paper for $1.40 it seems like a good deal.

I've been using 'Avery Removable Glue Stic' for mounting/exchanging abrasive strips on my Scary Sharp System, as suggested by ThomBrogan.

Find it at Staples, Officemax, etc.

Hope this helps!

you can get the adhesive backed paper from www.leevalley.com all the way down to .5 micron, and cut it into strips. Works pretty well. The 77 would not be a good choice as it is much harder to remove than the 75.
