High powered sniper rifle?

I saw a video clip a few days ago (and now of course I can't remember where it was) but it was of a sniper shooting Taliban fighters. The thing that shocked me was that these shots were pretty much dismembering the targets and sending the bulkiest parts that were left (torsos, etc) flying approximately 20 or 30 feet. I'm not a gun guy and I wasn't aware of any sniper rifle that could do such a thing. I don't think it was an explosive like a rocket launcher, it appeared to be just the force of the bullet doing it. Was it a .50 cal? Maybe some of you firearms buffs can give me some info as to what it was.

Edit: I found the video clip. Please do not click if this kind of thing upsets you.

Since it never shows the rifle, can't say for sure. But the effects look like a .50 cal yes. These rifles are also used for disabling vehicles, and setting off unexploded ordinance under certain circumstances. So yes, they've got a heckuva punch.

It takes more than a 50BMG round to take someone apart !! Sniper rifles are in 7.62 Nato, 50 BMG and 338 Lapua [ Brits].But when necessary anything goes !It could have been 25mm or something bigger.

Not a sniper video. Thats a varmit hunting video. It been discussed before.

LOL, when I watched it, I was going to say. Doesn't look like people to me... but most of those rounds could surely vaporize half of a prairie dog or something that sized... ^.~

I was gonna say, that CAN'T be for real! But there's something weird about the landscape too: One of the clips shows too much vegetation for Afghanistan.

I reckon it's very easy to confuse the Taliban with varmint.

Just saw a photo of a deer taken ay over 700 yds with a 50 BMG round. Didn't kill it though, had to finish it off.

With stuff exploding and flying everywhere like that I like the varment idea better, because you need a round that would expand a whole lot to pretty much explode stuff like that. BMG rounds are usually made to penetrate I think, so it probably would just blow people to a million pieces like that.

I'm no animal activist, but I can't watch that stuff...
show me a human tortured to death, I can deal with... animals suffering leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm no vetrenarian, but I wouldnt think those rascals suffered a heck of a lot before they were sent to the great big prairie in the sky to look around vacantly for all eternity
