I seem to burn through my A.O. belts like nobody's business.

Anybody have a link to a good place with high-quality belts in 1" x 42" sizes? I know a few places that will "custom" make them - but I'm not that desperate yet...

BTW, I'm currently paying about $0.50 per belt, so it's not about the money. I just get tired of having to restock belts over and over again - especially in the 220-400 range. Seems I go through 1 or 2 of each grit per knife.

Help...?!? :(

1-2 belts per grit, per knife is pretty normal when it comes to AO belts. Good 2X72" ceramic, or regalloy belts run $5.00 and up, each. They are worth it because they last 10 times+ longer than AO, and the results are better.
If you want to use AO, and you try to stretch their life, your workmanship will suffer. The saying is, "use the belts like they were free".
Maybe a better grade of AO would help you some. Tru Grit is another place that has good quality belts at good prices.

...that's what I'm looking for - something better than A.O.

I would love to get long-lasting ceramic belts in 1 x 42. Have yet to see 3M in 1x42...

Tru-grit only has 2x72. 1x42 is a special order.
That's the way it is with most companies I've seen so far.

The only belts at Pop's are Klingspor hard backed belts. How are they at the higher grits? For me, they tend to take off too much material too quickly to be as useful. I do 90% of my shaping with a slack belt and like to work slowly. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Any other suppliers?

what mike said!

the new yellow 3M belts cost me about $6.50 each!
They are the best belts I have ever seen and you actually save money over buying the cheap ones!
Dont know about that size.......usually you have to order 5 dozen to get odd sizes made up???

Thanks! Looks promising. Just a short drive from my place, too! Maybe I'll make a visit and catch a little bit of ole Gettysburg in the process.
