Not quite blade related, but anyways, I am curious if anyone could recommend a lighter that I can carry every day but is reliable to use in an emergency and in harsh conditions.

I have a zippo, which sucks, and I prefer bic lighters. But I am looking for a windproof flame and water resistance. Also I want something small and affordable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

a lighters not going to serve you well for survival purposes...but if youre looking for wind and water resistance, theres about a thousand zippo sized butane lighters out there to fulfill that purpose. try a quantum or cabelas model for around 30 bucks.

I don't think any lighter will fill your requirements exactly. Many people simply carry bics on a daily basis (myself included), and carry a ferrocium rod or similar "firesteel" in the woods. You could carry both daily, if you so chose.

Iv got a few different lighters I have used for out doors stuff but i personaly found the torch style
lighters like windmills etc. are not actually as good as a "regular" flamed lighter.

I just always use a zippo (liquid fuel) or clipper (gas) and fero. rod now. They do just fine

Guess I will be no help with this one. I have carried a Zippo for 30 years and I can't find anything that I would want to replace it with.

i just found this off that EDC forum that i just sign up to (i hate how their posts go from newest to oldest...)

Zippo, butane, what else do you want? i think this thing is 2009 brand new, not many on elbay...

wish i knew before i bought the Zplus...

I had high hopes for this lighter, but it does NOT have the Zippo reliability, within a month of carrying and using mine it started having problems lighting, and when it does light the flame burns kind of funny, sort of a "dull" flame for lack of a better term, than the sharp pointed torch flame that it had when new.

IMHO, Zippo should have made a standard flame lighter, rather than a torch model.

that sucks to hear. i was about to sell my Zplus and pick one up.

you sure you've done all you can to make it work good? better butane maybe?

thanks for the review

Yup, did everything according to the instructions, including using Zippo fuel. I need to send it back to test Zippo's repair service i guess.
