High temp refractory on the cheap

This guy on Youtube is making a forge out of a paint can and lining it with a refractory made from flour, corn starch, powdered sugar, baking soda and borax.


He uses something like a metal paint can and a propane torch. Check it out...
 
Love that channel! He's a really smart dude who does some really cool projects!

He does one where he converts a moped to run on wood gas. Practical, no. Really frickin' cool, yes!

I have found that mixing the clay in my areas soil with wood ashes and crushed brick makes a surprisingly decent refractory cement.
 
Clay+ashes+brick dust is an ancient Japanese refractory used in many knife crafts.
