I tend to like to carry congress pattern knives. They are good size for the pocket and having 4 blades helps make sure I always have a sharp one available. I tend to like carbon steel blades for carry. The soft stainless used in most slipjoints doesn't ring my bell and the ones with high tech stainless are usually expensive collector's items. Trust me, I like expensive collector's items as much as the next guy but not to carry around in my pocket.

Below are a few of my congress pattern knives that fit the bill - all with carbon steel blades. All are made in Germany and all of them can be had for $50 or thereabouts brand new. Three of them even have stag scales. The one with the red jig bone scales is also handsome. I think the German knives with carbon steel blades provide a terrific value. I wonder how many others carry German steel around in their pocket. Here's an image:

I like the variety you posted-I especially like congress patterns with a carpenters' blade, instead of a second pen blade. Thanks for posting!

I occasionally carry German steel, right now I have one in my pocket, a 4.25" Kissing Crane split backspring whittler that is curved like a congress pattern, stag scales. The master blade is a large sheepsfoot, the other two are pen blades. I picked it up on ebay for a song.

Sweet!!

Congress isn't my favorite pattern, but I really like that one with the rounded bolsters; who makes that one?

I love my Eye Brand large stockman. I would love to get one of their congress. Nice collection, how is the Henckels?

What, no Fightn' Roosters? They are a nice, well put together knife. Proabably one of the best high carbon steel slipjoints out of Germany.

The one with the rounded bolsters is a Bulldog - current model. The Henckels is exactly like a Boker since Boker makes them for United Cutlery with the Henckels shield. Personally, I think Boker probably has the most consistent quality among the German manufacturers. I tend to like Hen and Rooster and Buck Creek (Bear and Bull) as well. In fact I have a Buck Creek small stag congress with me today.

Nice selection of knives, I don't have any German congress's yet, just a Case and a Camillus. The stag is nice, but that redbone sure does catch the eye.
