Hi all, had a really stormy few days with high winds. Seen this today and thought what a good chance for a chop off.

The test subjects
From left to right
BK-9, Wetterings 15 inch axe, HI 15 inch BAS, and 18 inch El Salvador Condor machete.

I took no more than 50 chops with each except for the axe, which chopped through in 39 chops. There is one alibi with the BAS. I recently purchased it and to be honest, it doesnt feel completly comfortable in hand yet. I think I need to use it more to get the swing of it so to speak.

The Condor broke through the branch on the last chop.

Nice collection! Great pics! I have a question though. I hang out a bit on th HI board and have an 15" HI Ang Khola. But I never did figure out what BAS meant and never got around to asking. Is it a Bonecutter? Whatever it is I really like the white metal on yours,. A very elegant tool.

Thanks Wolfenhawk. I've been looking at the CAK and AK's. I am still learning how to use the BAS. When I swing it, only every other swing seems to hit the sweet spot.

Kukri’s do require a different technique to use efficiently,

…with some practice I’m sure you will see improvement.

Chopping is such a great passtime. Love to see these photo comparisons. Thirty nine swings with that little hatchet? Looks like you are nothing less than a surgeon with the Wetterlings.

Agreed, …all the photos show well controlled technique.

Thanks Tal and Grinder. Keep in mind that las photo is the main trunk though and took me more than 39 chops!
All in all I love the feel of a good axe/hatchet. It did really well limbing the tree as well.
