What in general might the highest - end prices for Microtechs be? I was looking on eBay, and there is one, a fixed blade, the ADO, for 5 grand. And another liner lock for 2300. In general, prices there seemed way outside of normal.

I’ve seen them as high as $20k and up for rare models.

This pair sold very recently, they were made for TKI.

I honestly don't understand the whole Microtech valuation. Yeah, I get they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay, but the concept that a knife is worth as much as a (cheap) car is just mind-boggling. 🤪

Supply and demand. The same questions can be asked about many other things, but the fact is that there is a demand for these. Doesn’t matter if you see the value or not, many others DO see that value as being worth it.

Yes, I get that. But why Microtech? Their knives are not that special/good. I've had several. They are no better than anything else out there. In fact, a few that I had were worse (far worse). And yes I realize that is subjective as well, but MT prices on the secondary market are simply out of whack. Seriously.

I would disagree about them being “not that special/good”, but that’s a different topic. Microtech has captured the automatic market for a very long time, especially their OTFs. There are other companies making OTFs but not at the same volume, or arguably not the same quality.

They also have the Marfione Custom line, which is meant to set them apart from not only their own standard production line, but also other manufacturers. Protech also has a custom line, and some of those can fetch prices like some of the high end Microtechs do.

Yeah, I get that E-bay prices are something else, but I was wondering how far off in this case, maybe?

I think MT definitely makes a very solid product, but shit, 14 or 20K for a knife? I don't see it either. Of course, I also don't crap $100 bills...

From what I've seen, at least Heretic and Guardian Tactical are their equals in quality.

I wasn’t just talking EBay prices. eBay doesn’t allow the sale of automatic knives, so what you see for sale on there is only a small portion of what’s available.

And no, they are not “anywhere between $300-500”. That’s a very vague price limit, especially if we are talking signature series, vintage, or limited models. The Strider collaboration was only ONE collab, there has also been Terzuola, Lightfoot, Borka, Bastinelli, Monroe, Hara, and other collaborations out there.

Plain and simple, people pay these prices outside of eBay every single day. That’s just how it is.

So just out of curiosity, if money were no object, what would THE most expensive holy grail MT be, and how much?

That is a tough question. I once saw a Marfione broadhead arrow set for I think like $50k. There was also some one-off OTF they made a while back that was only 1 of 1 I believe. The most expensive is just whatever someone is willing to pay. I'm sure there are a whole bunch of rare models that most are unaware of, I've been into Microtechs for a long time and am constantly seeing rare models I've never heard of pop up. They even made some "giant" models, like the Giant Halo, Giant Combat Troodon, Giant Ultratech, etc.. They are well aware of the following they have, so they often make models specifically for collectors.

Interesting that there seems to be no catalog of the stuff they've made over the years.

How about if I narrow the question a little? Grail MT, but one reasonably known to a lot of MT collectors, and no one-off type things?

Probably the Giant or Mini Halo would be a more well known “grail”. I’m sure they have a catalog somewhere, but it’s probably not public. Most likely in Tony’s safe or something LOL.
