My eldest did exceptionally well at his first year of high school having just skipped a year. Would have got a A+ aggregate if not for his spelling. His trouble is that he has not got past spelling as he talks, considering he has dyslexia and speech problems that means creative spelling. I was very pleased with his A.

In my pride I called my mum to boast. That was her only good news, her friend of 70 yrs has been surviving cancer (stage 3) without chemo using this ultrasonic machine for some 3 years. The machine was cooked with the power fluctuations in Zim, and by the time a replacement machine was sent by her family from over seas that was too late and of course returned with a vengeance. That was one friend gone this week and her other 80 year old friend of some 60 years was beaten to death in a brutal home robbery near by last night, resisting the theft of what little he had left. The police caught the robbers (desperately impoverished by the economic meltdown) and if they survive the prison horrors will most likely hang. My mum is glad that she has kept her firearms, has faced off one attempt of robbery this week and is getting out of that mess of a country.

The world is a mess. Most of Africa is an ongoing disaster but a beautiful place. At the moment I feel blessed that I have a good family, circumstances change but my family is close.

Things seem bad in this country but we haven't got much to moan about really.

Congratulations on your son doing so well. :)

I'm always willing to trade brags with another proud Dad. Congrats, Tim!

Last night, my daughter brought home her report card and a poem for which she won a certificate, and I was so proud I let her see the tear in my eye. The little nut is pissed off that her report card wasn't "quite" perfect ("only" an A-minus average overall) and vows to kick ass next time.

Here's to our kids! Cheers, mate. :) And best wishes for your family members who are facing trouble. I can't imagine what y'all are dealing with over there. Prayers sent.

Congrats on the kids grades. It is an accomplishment, relish in it! I pray your family and you stay safe where you live.

Whew, back on line. Thanks for the support. Bots is great and safe. It is the moving of my parents from Zimbabwe to South Africa is nail biting. From the fat into the fire. I want them to come to Botswana but they want South Africa (2nd highest murder rate in the world, just below Columbia). I would like to take my pickup to Harare and pack them in, but my wife is adamant I don't risk it as we have had friends arrested for nonsense.

I am proud of my eldest, unfortunately he inherited the dsyslexia and abysmal handwriting from me. I have never wanted to push the guy, help but never push because I lived under my elder brother's shadow who was always A+ and no one picked up my ADHD until I was in my late 30s.

Hi Tim and congrats on going gold......;)

Great news about your son you should be very proud of him.

I was most distressed to hear about your Mom but I am glad that you have decided to move her to SA. Try and find her somewhere quiet like Sedgefield or George. There is crime but it is much lower and there is still a strong community spirit.

Rental prices are good right now and if you need any help with finding her a flat in an Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town let me know as I have an excellent connection with the largest property management company in SA.

As for the bloody Columbians beating us out of the top spot for murders....all I can say is "We'll be back"

We still win the International crime league for rape and car-jacking so 2 out of 3 aint bad!!:D

All the best bro.....
Steven

Thanks Alfaholic, hook or by crook we have pooled family resources to get them a tiny place of their own in Kloof, Natal this past month. However they have nothing to live on when they get down there. At 81 my stepfather is a tad old to start work again but he is lucky that he has been offered a job for 2010 as a water engineer. It is getting them out with what they can and through the rest of the year.
