A great cheap friction folder which synonymous with Japanese culture (much like an Opinel is associated with France or the Mercator knife to Germany). You can get them relatively cheap off eBay, from what I understand the Higonokami was a guild of knife makers and only makers in the guild are allowed to call their knives Higonokamis. The last remaining member is Motosuke Nagao and hes getting up their in age so most of the knives you receive will be functionally perfect but a bit rough around the edges. I remember there being talk about a son or a relative taking over production and keeping the "true" Higonokami alive but it might just be conjecture. Miyamoto SEISAKUSHO makes Higonokami alternatives which are visually and functionally exactly the same but they have better fit and finish. He even offers them in a variety of styles and designs (google translate might be needed:p). For a more in depth look at the history of the knife here is a great thread from britishblades.com. Hope that was useful for you, I really enjoy my Higonokami its cheap, simple, easy to sharpen and an all around fun knife
