Hello knife people,

I recently purchased a old rusty higonokami to try my hand at restoring. As for as the rust goes, i mostly got rid of that. no problem at all. The problem that i'm running into now is that the knife has no friction at all. The blade falls open and has no hold back at all. I tried to hammer the pivot pin a little bit but that gives me a very some inconsistent friction...Plus after a few times of opening the blade it will just be loose again.

Any advice and how to fix these vintage higo's? Or is it best to just replace the pin and hammer in a new one?

Thanks!

Pinch the handle together a tiny bit here:

Yup the frame is typically pinched at the pivot end and flares out from there, causing uneven pressure on the pivot. Squash it down a little and it'll even up the pressure on the pivot, which will now be loose. Then tighten it up by peening the pivot pin.
