Hi Everyone,

I've had a Higonokami in my collection and have been using it moderately for the past year. Recently, I've noticed that the pivot for the blade has become incredibly gritty and tight. Some days, it gets to the point where the blade wont fold out and requires a considerable amount of force to open. I've used a dry lube on the pivot multiple times but it seems to only help a minimal amount. If you have any recommendations for how to deal with this, please let me know!

Thank you,
Thomas.

Have you ever washed the knife out?

Wash it with running hot water and dish soap. Make sure to work the pivot open and closed under running water to work the grit and soad out.

Once this is done, give it a blow out with an air compressor, computer key board cleaner or WD-40 to displace the water. Let the knife dry completely.

Now re-lube the knife with a dry lube, or something that will not hold grit. Now go use your functional knife.

Quick release is tbe best lube I have found, developed by knife guys. Of course, Bills advice works great also!

I'll add one thing that I have found. When using any kind of dry lube, use it extremely sparingly. If too much is used, it will get gritty and slooooow the action down.
I stopped using it.
I would take Bill's advice and clean all that stuff out.
See how it feels when clean, then a little lube.
Good luck!
Joe

Wash it out, dry it, put just a drop or two of oil. Then you're set.

I took Bill's recommendation and it's working great now! Thank you for all the help, everyone!!

Thomas.
Glad to have a knife back amongst the living. How about a pic?

What else do you carry?

Someone here posted a video showing a good example of liquid lube applied too thick. If you put anything more than basically the ammount left after wiping with a paper towel the lube will actually not perform.

The test involved a turntable with a metal disk on it. On this was put different ammounts of lubricant. Then a weight was put on the disk and attatched to a string which connected to a meter that measured how much force that string was pulled with. When more than the slightest ammount of lube is used it actually creates a litte wave infront of the weight. The wave is thrown up by the rotating of the table. That wave means that more force is read on the meter.
