I recently picked up a pair of the Carbon Opinel Paring knives. I love the blade profiles on these. I've been using one in the kitchen and the other one was sitting in reserve so I decided to have a bit of fun with it and make it into a friction folder. And I did most all of the work using just my opinel saw (to saw the blade well) and the awl on my SAK Pioneer (to drill the pivot pin and lanyard holes). I used a single piece of Blood Wood, which is reasonably hard stuff. In the end its sort of like a combination of a Higonokami and an Opinel. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Simple, elegant, and sturdy. I wouldn't use it for anything besides paring and light slicing duties, because of how thin the blade is, but it is very snug in the closed and opened positions, while still opening smoothly. Just thought I'd share. Comments welcome.
