Went out this afternoon on the trails behind my house. I was using my Condor Parang to keep the trail up and got sloppy and somehow whacked my left leg on the outside near my knee. Observed a clean slice on my 511's and a big splotch of red stuff.I used a gauze pad and a couple gauze rolls to wrap and stop the bleeding, sucked some water from my camelbak and called the wife to prepare for incoming wounded. I cut a quick walking stick and took off. It was about a half mile walk back to include the infamous 'heart attack hill". My wife met me on the trail. She checked the cut and then re-wrapped it. To the ER we went.
In the ER the triage nurse is going to check the wound in the waiting area!(It was dressed up good, I had shed the bloody pants and had a clean t-shirt so she must have thought it was minor) I told her you may want to put something underneath before you unwrap this. Anyway 10 staples and one stitch later. Time to replenish the 1st aid kit! Must be more careful with the parang. Thank God it could have been much worst.

First-Aid kits should be everyone's #1 concern when loading up our packs. Sounds like you had everything covered.
Had a little mishap with my machete a while back.

Took the day off of work and repacked all the 1st aid kits. Both vehicles, house and hiking kits.I need to get some more large ace bandages with Velcro. The ACE coupled with some non stick gauze will get you out of the woods in one piece.
Should be good for a lite hike by tomorrow. might leave the parang at home this time :)

Another reason to always have some sort of first aid on you. Glad you didn't get injured more seriously.

Glad to here you did not get hurt worse. just think it is another right of passage lol. Getting cut my yoru knife what woodsman dosen't.

You're very lucky. You could have severed the IT band, running from the knee to the hip. That would have left you without use of that leg, for a quite a while.
